Kalasag is a Filipino Term for shield used by early Filipinos as a means of protection from attacks of enemies or harmful animals. Relatedly, Gawad KALASAG was conceived to protect or shield high risk communities against hazards by encouraging participation of various stakeholders in designing and implementing Disaster and Risk Management (DRM) programs.
Gawad “KALASAG” which means KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan is being awarded to NGOs, individuals, private sectors and government organizations to recognize their ingenuity in helping the government enrich the standard of disaster management in the country.
The National Validating Team of Gawad Kalasag was astonished with the accomplishments of the Municipality of Villaverde though it’s only a 5th Class Municipality, its endeavors on Disaster and Risk Management Programs were exceptional. With pride and honor, last May 2, 2016, the Officials and the Technical Working Group of the Gawad Kalasag of Villaverde received its award as the winner of the Best Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (4TH to 6TH Class Category) at Chardonay by Astoria, Pasig City.
